Romsey Astronomical Society

"Keeping astronomy simple"

Who We Are

The Romsey Astronomical Society was formed in December 2007 with the aim of establishing a group in the area to cater for the needs and tastes of local amateur astronomers and people just begining their journey into the wonderful world of amateur astronomy....an area of science where the amateurs role can still play a vital part to the progress of a scientific discipline and where the amateurs work in the field can really make a difference.

At the present time the society is very young and in careful need of the correct support from its members and you can help us by joining the group and helping to achieve our long term goals of:

  • Establishing a respectable group
  • Observing celestial objects on a regular basis
  • Recording and submitting observations to the relevant organisations
  • Build strong links between the RAS and already existing groups
  • Establish a permanant observatory in the area conforming to the classical observatory appearance.
  • To allow our members to observe when they want too! (pending training)

As you can see we have a long way to go but we will get there :-)

We are currently formulating our membership packages and its hoped this will be completed as soon as possible but in the meantime if you attend any of our observing sessions we would like to request a small donation so assist with the societies funds and help in getting the group off the ground.
